Arsenal Plan Final £50m Suarez Bid But Eye Michu & Dzeko As ‘Plan B’

By on August 14, 2013

According to reports today, Arsenal are lining up a final £50m bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez but have identified Swansea City’s Michu and Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko as potential alternatives if we fail to land the Uruguayan.

The Daily Mail believe we are still hopeful of completing a deal to sign Suarez, despite Liverpool’s insistence he wont be sold, and are ready to test their resolve further with an improved £50m bid.

Quotes emanating from Uruguay on Wednesday morning suggested that Suarez was ready to perform a u-turn and stay at Anfield, but these are yet to be confirmed.

However, as we approach the final days of the transfer window the club are finally starting to look at alternatives in case Liverpool dig their heels in and refuse to sell, and the newspaper suggests backroom staff have held discussions in the last few days to come up with a ‘plan B’.

Wayne Rooney is understood to still be in our thoughts but a deal is highly unlikely so the Mail say we’ve compiled extensive scouting reports of Michu and Dzeko. I would have taken either at the start of the summer as both would be useful additions, but it difficult to go back to the likes of Michu after being so close to buying players like Gonzalo Higuain or Luis Suarez.

The fact that we’re only now, 19 days until the window shuts, thinking about a ‘plan B’ tells you everything you need to know about this summers transfer activity. We don’t seem to be in a hurry to do any business, despite the season starting in 3 days time and we have the smallest squad in the Premier League.

Let’s hope that we can get one big deal done and a few more will quickly follow. Gustavo would be a good start….

Unlike Liverpool, who usually give up on all competitions around December time

No offence (I don’t generally have a problem with Arsenal), but you were never really “close” to signing Suarez were you. Your fans may have felt this, your club officials may have felt this, maybe even Suarez himself and his reps might have too. But unfortunately (or fortunately depending on which side you’re coming from), it takes the will of all concerned parties to come to the negotiating table for a deal to be even remotely close. LFC are/were never going to start selling their best players to Arsenal. We still covet a Champions League place (as we should), and no matter what Arsenal fans feel about it, your club are the most vulnerable out of the current top 4.

Same applies to your champions league hopes really. You may covet a place in the competition, but your never really close are you? Maybe you could try negotiating with UEFA to let you in, I believe you won it in the past didn’t you? No one ever really mentions that tho do they

Wow, unnecessarily hostile there. Feeling a little sensitive there pal? Bless. With regard to “not really being close” to the top four, prior to the last 4 years we have been arguably more of a top four side than yourselves. Since then our club has been very close to being out of existence and what followed was a constant state of flux and instability with regard to leadership, playing personnel and philosophies. Until last year when we started the season with yet another new manager and style, but with kids expected to carry the club (due to a lack of a scouting network. Obviously this didn’t out well. However the problems (scouts and players)were addressed in January, and since then we actually had top four form. This season we have strengthened the squad, and as BR has stated, will strengthen the team now. If you don’t see us as a threat then good for you, lets see how that works for you as there’s no point arguing over it now.

Prior to the last four years? When we were in the top four? And the four years before that we were actually winning stuff! Seems to me like you can’t take a joke my friend so you need to reply with an essay that no one will read.

Oh and talking about that period when you were winning stuff, (actually more recently than that, as that was so long ago), we won the Champions league, and were in the final again two years later. That was a whole 3 years after the last time Arsenal won anything at all.

If you look up the word stubborn on a dictionary, guess what you’ll find. The definition of the word of course, but Wenger’s is a perfect posterboy. While he dilly-dallies and sits on his hands, decent players are drying up. Higuain WAS keen to join, Gustavo IS keen to join(Napoli are already rubbing their hands as they salivate),yet he keeps flogging this damn dead horse. He should leave that clown alone-we don’t need all the bad press, and sign up Dzeko quick!

I think Suarez knows its another 7th or 8th place finish for liverpool next season, and he just wants out to anybody, regardless of who it is as long as they have champions league. I have always felt we should look at a different player Suarez is good but a huge risk. Plus he misses the start of the season.

What on earth makes you believe we (City) will sell Dzeko, any more than Liverpool will sell Suarez? Pelligrini has already stated tat Dzeko will be his main striker and removed him from the transfer list.

You may have got him 3 or 4 months ago, at a bargain price too but, then, the same thing could have been said about Higuain, Gustavo and Jovetic. Wenger has done his usual slight of hand trick, in making all and sundry believe he’s about to splash some cash, only to wave his magic wand and make all those targets disappear in a puff of smoke.

Sorry that was difficult to read as you have the literacy skills of a four year old. Why don’t you just hit the keyboard with your face next time, might make more sense. Also, haven’t Chelsea (chealsraeaea) actually won the champions league? Liverpool are like George Michael, big in the eighties, now a bit of a car crash

You’ve got more chance of signing Messi than Michu. We don’t need to sell, we don’t want to sell and, if you did your research and listened to what Michu has said, he does not want to move.
Poor old Arsene looks more and more like Mr Burns every day. He has missed the boat again this year and blown Arsenals chances of success this year. Another season of mediocrity and disappointment for the Gunners I’m sorry

Is this really Arsenal station or Arsenal haters station? I am outright disgusted with the kind of despicable jokes about Arsenal! How can you call yourself Arsenal station when you allow this kind of cheap staff? Either you are an Arsenal fan or you are not. This website has more hostile mails than friendly ones. How then can it be Arsenal station? I know its okay to have constructive criticism but not of the kind in this website. The mails here are too cynical to be from Arsenal fans. Even if they are from rival fans they should not be cheap stuff! It is a fact that Arsenal is one of the top four premier league clubs for more than 15 years running. How then can anyone have the impudence to make cheap jokes about the club? It’s true Arsenal has not won a trophy in 8 years but how many clubs have won any trophy for the last 15 years? Does this mean denigrating a club?
