Report: Arsenal Set To Trigger £22m Fellaini Release Clause

By on July 30, 2013

As I, like the majority of Arsenal fans, sit here scouring the internet for news of potential summer signings, I came across an interesting story that claims we’re ready to trigger Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini’s £22m release clause.

The giant Belgian was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates at the very start of the summer but we appeared to put any potential move on the back-burner as we concentrated our efforts on trying to sign a marquee striker.

However, with our pursuit of Liverpool’s Luis Suarez stalling due to a conflict over his supposed ‘clause’, it appears we’re ready to renew our interest in Fellaini.

Understandably, Everton are desperate to hang on to the 25-year-old but they can do little to stop him leaving if Arsenal submit a formal offer of £22m before the 13th August – the date that his release clause expires.

A defensive minded midfielder is vitally important this summer and Fellaini would be a superb signing. He’s powerful, talented, the right age, has plenty of Premier League experience and he’d jump at the chance to play for us. He’d also provide a physical presence at the heart of our midfield that been sorely missed in recent years, so I personally hope this reports is true.

There have also been suggestions that new Manchester United manager David Moyes is also eyeing a move for the Belgian international now he’s (finally) given up hope of signing Cesc Fabregas, so we better get a move on because I could see the player opting for a switch to Old Trafford to link up with his former boss if he gets the chance.

Would you like to see Fellaini come to the club this summer? If not, what midfielder would you like us to go for?

I don’t get this at all. If he is really that good and he will go for more than £22m after the release clause expires, than surely he would have been sold right now? If not Arsenal than certainly another club? Moyes knows all about him and his contract and whilst very naive in his pursuit of Fabregas, he can’t be that stupid.
So either he is not as good as people think he is or the release clause is just a load of BS made up by the media.

How many times have we read this. Please stop just repeating these stories. We are not going to buy Fellaini. Find some real information and give real hope and joy, not this false hope.

If Fellani is ready to come to Arsenal,no problem but Wenger I presume is tired of running after a player who does not seem to be interested.Wenger can find a better player if he is commited

What is it with Arsene Wenger? I’m beginning to think that he’s some sort of sadist, getting so close to signing awesome players, then missing out because he won’t pay an extra fiver. How many times have we been through this? It feels like losing the match in the last 20 seconds for the whole season. The amount of money we’ve wasted on Arshavin, Djourou, Park, Chamakh, Squillaci, Santos, we could’ve easily afforded Suarez. PLEASE BUY A PROVEN PERSON WHO CAN HELP THE TEAM!!!!

Bit harsh when you think of the players the man has bought for nothing. You’ve named the crap ones but the good ones have outweighed them by so much more.

I think they’ll pass on Fellani. I think it would be smart to sign him up at that price, but I guess is that Wenger will push Vermalen into the CDM role as he lost his CB spot towards the end of the season.

I still want a powerhouse CB signing though. Along with another striker to compete with Podo and Giroud. Thoughts?

I’d like to see fellani in there but I think vermallem would or could with his aggression make an excellent defensive mf. First time we have had money in ages so lets see what happens before we start chastising the professor.

yawn, yawn! United are not sniffing so Arsenal don’t stand a chance. Arsenal were men’t to ‘trigger’ the same clause a month ago… NOTHING HAPPENED! The next 24 hours will pass and the trigger clause will drop off his contract, making him even more expensive!!!

Arsenal should not buy players on a whim. Liverpool does that all time and look what have they gotten so far! Nobody knows whether the cliub is interested in Fellani; we do not deal thru the newspapers. If we buy him or any other players I would be most happy.

I believe this news had reported one month ago.
Arsene did offer Bender in almost similar ammount, but he seemed didn’t want Fellaini at all, along with Luiz Gustavo, Capoue, Wanyama, Kondogbia, etc. We are in the verge of major dissapointment in this DMF category.
