Wenger Eyes £6m Move For Dutch Keeper As Cesar Heads To Italy
Arsenal are ready to launch a £6m move for Newcastle keeper Tim Krul after seemingly missing out on Julio Cesar, according to reports today.
A new goalkeeper to challenge Wojciech Szczesny seems a certainty this summer and all the talk up until now has suggested our No.1 target was Queens Park Rangers Brazilian stopper Cesar, with reports earlier this week claiming we were finally ready to make a formal move with the 33-year-old understood to be keen on a move to the Emirates as he wanted to remain in London.
However, things appear to have changed with widespread reports coming out of Italy suggesting Cesar has grown tired of waiting and is now on the verge of joining Napoli on loan with a view to making it permanent next summer.
If true, this is another example of Wenger’s dithering in the transfer market and it seems his indecision could cost us a vastly experienced Brazilian international, who’s potentially available for as little as £2m this summer.
According to reports in Holland, after missing our on Cesar the boss has now set his sights on Krul and is lining up an opening £6m bid for the 25-year-old. It’s highly unlikely Newcastle will entertain such an offer for their No.1 though, particularly as he only signed a five-year deal last summer, so we’ll most likely have to pay a lot more than £6m if we want to bring him to the Emirates.
Personally, I don’t see the point in paying out for a player who I think is on a similar level to Szczesny and they are also around the same age. If we sign Krul to be our new No.1, I would say that would be the end for Szczesny. Whereas someone like Cesar, who’s 33, could come in and offer his wealth of experience to help the young Pole progress while not be a threat to his long-term position at the club.
I’d still love to see Cesar signed this summer but if we have missed out, I’d prefer we go for another experienced keeper rather than someone like Krul.

What do you think; would you like Cesar or Krul? Or if neither, who would you like?
