Fellaini Set To Follow Higuain To Arsenal As Wenger Prepres £45m Spree
The summer transfer window is starting to get interesting Gooners, with reports today from the Evening Standard claiming that boss Arsene Wenger is prepared to spend a further £23m on Marouane Fellaini just days after agreeing a deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid for £22m.
It’s understood that all parties are confident the deal to bring Higuain to the Emirates Stadium will be concluded in the coming days once Carlo Ancelotti is confirmed as Jose Mourinho’s replacement at the Bernabeu, after the Argentinean hitman agreed personal terms over a four-year contract.
The 25-year-old’s purchase would smash Arsenal’s current transfer record – set at £15m paid for Andrey Arshavin in 2009 – and would represent a huge shift in transfer policy from the club.
However, the spending may not end their with the Standard suggesting that Wenger will then go and break our transfer record for a second time this summer by activating the £23m release clause inserted into Fellaini’s Everton contract.
The boss is a huge fan of the Belgian international’s and with Fellaini understood to be keen on a move following David Moyes departure, Wenger had hoped to pick him up for less than his buy-out fee. But the Toffees have refused to go lower than the £23m required and it appears Arsene is now prepared to pay that sum to bring the afro-haired ace to north London.
It would be a stunning double swoop if we can pull it off and it would see the club splash £45m on two excellent new additions. These are my two ‘dream’ (buy realistic) summer targets and I’d be delighted if we can sign them both in the coming weeks.
It seems the Higuain deal is extremely close, although I’ve just read a report suggesting Juventus may try and make a late move to hijack our deal, but I have a feeling Fellaini’s signature will be even harder to secure. I can see the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd showing an interest if we make a move so I’m not going to get my hopes up too much just yet.
Would we be title contenders if we signed Higuain and Fellaini? Share your thoughts in the comments section…

I’d, sadly, be amazed if Fellani didn’t end up at Man U or Chelsea (depending on his relationship with Moyes).
Also I’ d love it if we got David Villa-that all seemed to go very quiet very quickly.
Oh, and Elvis and Jesus and cryogenically preserved Zidane please…;-)

My annoyance is that Arsenal always keeps pricing players for other clubs to be buying. They (ARSENAL) never seem to be serious, never acknowledging the emotional affair of the humble fans. Too bad and embarrassing. Sometimes, the success of a club goes beyond having a mere bragging right to having a “psychological right”

Can’t see Fellini going to manure. They don’t need him with Carrick there. Chelsea maybe withe recent suggestions that john obi mikel is off to turkey. However no hints from them yet that they want him. Fingers crossed!

With the addition of both players (Higuain & Fellani) the invisible era will be back again.

Higuian is the one I want the most. Think 23m is way too much for Fellaini.
Don’t get me wrong, Fellaini is a good player but think there is better and cheaper players than him on the market and that Everton are taking the piss with this price tag.

They aren’t taking the piss! That’s the release clause in his contract. & All u stupid fans, this is exactly why you get upset because you listen to rumours that are unconfirmed by Arsenal officials. Then when nothing happens you say Arsene is tight or doesn’t know what he is doing.
Some of these rumours are exactly that, rumours. Don’t start blaming a club for not landing a playing when u don’t even know for sure we were serious about them in the first place. You guys don’t have a clue what goes on in a club, 22 mil is serious money do u think they playing Monopoly money? So don’t be surprise if come September we end up with unheard of players like Sagogo or whatever his name is.

Well written mate! I think some of our fans just have big mouth and voracious thirst for rumours. Rumours are just that, rumours and unconfirmed by AW or Arsenal, end of!

They are taking the piss because he ain’t worth £23m.
Who installed the buy out clause?
If Arsenal install say £15m on Gervinho, ain’t that taking the piss?

Fair enough but buy out clauses are created to prevent people breaking their contract. Messi’s is 200 mil, they are not saying he’s worth that but anyone stupid enough to pay that for one player when they could have 10 Cazorlas is the one I think is taking the piss out of their fans. They put the clauses there to deter people from breaking their contract, if they do, the club gets a tidy sum so it’s a win win for them.

Why is everyone saying Arshavin was our most expensive buy??? £15m right?? Well has everyone forgotten about lil Santi??? Or can nobody count nowadays?? Last time I looked 16 was higher than 15! Santi cost us £16m – therefore our most expensive signing! People who say Arshavin is our most expensive obviously dont know much about Arsenal! Or are trying to make Arsenal look bad as we let our most expensive signing leave for a free! So please everyone get your facts right before you attempt to tell a transfer rumour!! How can Gooners believe all the blogs and papers if they cant basic facts right???

Reyes so supposed to cost us 17 mil but we ended up paying 9 I think. We’ve only jus signed Santi, I’m not sure we paid all up front. I think the thing is it might rise to 16 depending on different things so in the end we might only end up paying 10. So technically to date think Wiltord is our record signing & not even Arshavin. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Arsene should forget about Fellaini and buy Capoue instead! Good range of passing and will add steel to the midfield.
With the additions of Higuin and Capoue plus a versatile defender the team will be challenging for honours again.

Ye, realistically, there is a genuine possibility of signing both, but we’ll have to wait and see. No one can argue with Wenger for bringing in two big names after years of nagging him to dip into his wallet
