Midfielder ‘Agrees Terms’ Over £15m Arsenal Move – Reports

The January transfer deadline day has arrived but it seems Arsene Wenger is already preparing for the summer as according to reports, we’ve agreed terms with Morgan Schneiderlin over a move at the end of the season.

Schneiderlin is widely believed to be Wenger’s top defensive midfield target but with Southampton refusing to do business mid-season, we’ll have to wait until the summer to get our hands on the Frenchman.

And it appears a deal could already be close as the Daily Star cite L’Equipe as saying that Arsenal have agreed personal terms with the 25-year-old ahead of a potential £15m move at the end of the campaign.

The newspaper suggests that Schneiderlin has snubbed interest from the likes of Man Utd, Tottenham and Liverpool in order to join Arsenal.

Who knows how much truth there is behind these reports but I’d love to see Schneiderlin come to the club. He’s been one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League over the past two seasons and he’d make for the ideal long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta.

I personally don’t see the Saints selling for just £15m though. It’s likely to cost in excess of £20m to land the French international, but I still think that kind of money would prove to be good business.

However, that said, surely we should wait and see how Coquelin develops during the second half of the season before committing £20m+ on another defensive midfielder? Coquelin has been a revelation since coming into the side last month and he could be the answer to our problems without having to spend a penny.

The 23-year-old is close to signing a new long-term contract and if he continues to impress over the course of the next few months, do we even need to sign Schneiderlin?
