Injury Latest: Wenger Offers Update On The Ox, Monreal & Gibbs
Arsene Wenger has given an update on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs after the trio picked up knocks during our 1-0 win over West Brom today.
Monreal was forced off inside the opening 20 minutes with a knee injury and had to be replaced by Kieran Gibbs at left-back.
However, Gibbsy also suffered a knock midway through the second half after turning his ankle, but with few defensive options left on the bench the 24-year-old was forced to complete the full ninety minutes.
The Ox was a late sub during the win at the Hawthorns but he too picked up an injury after being kicked on his knee following a tackle and he finished the game limping.
The boss confirmed the three injuries after the match but told Arsenal.com it’s too soon to determine how serious the issues are:
on injuries…
Gibbs struggled a little bit with an ankle problem and Monreal with a knee problem. Oxlade-Chamberlain also had a knee problem.
on whether the injuries are serious…
I don’t know. We have to see how they recover on Monday. We have Oxlade-Chamberlain, Monreal and Gibbs who have knocks but I don’t know how bad it is.
We went into the game with nine injuries so it looks like that number has now increased ahead of Wednesday’s crucial clash with Southampton.
We’ll have to wait for further updates but hopefully none of the injuries we picked up today are too serious, particularly Gibbs and Monreal, as we have very little depth in defence.
