Will trophies be like buses for the Gunners?

It is perhaps the most pressing question on many Arsenal fans’ minds. Will the club follow up their FA Cup win, with another trophy this season?

Following a stuttering start to the campaign, the Gunners are 25/1 joint-third favourites with Coral to win the Premier League title, and sit in fifth, nine points off first place Chelsea.

There was understandable concern that the signing of Alexis Sanchez may not fit into their starting XI, after his initial couple of below-par performances, however, the Chilean attacker has since come good, after appearing to acclimatise to life in the Premier League.

He has hit the back of the net eight times in all competitions so far this season having scored five in the league, and seems to be forming a flourishing partnership with fellow new signing Danny Welbeck. Arsene Wenger’s side take on Burnley at home next, and Sanchez who bagged a brace last time out is 7/2 to score two or more goals.

With Chelsea’s resurgence, it does look unlikely Arsenal will usurp the Blues at the top of the league, however it isn’t impossible. The Gunners need to sort out their defence, while Jose Mourinho’s men are perhaps too over-reliant on Diego Costa for goals, and this could be costly in the long run if the Spaniard continues to be hampered by injuries.

If they don’t win the Premier League, then another cup victory wouldn’t be deemed too unsatisfying by fans. However, the Champions League, at 25/1 does look beyond them. Dismantled by a depleted Borussia Dortmund side away from home, there are plenty of other teams that are much stronger than the German outfit. Real Madrid will clearly take some stopping, while Barcelona and Bayern Munich also provide a huge threat.

This could mean that the FA Cup is the only other option, a competition they are 15/2 to win, and it certainly wouldn’t be too disastrous retaining the trophy, if they also managed a top four finish.
