Arsenal Fail With Attempt To Land Spanish Attacker – But Do We Even Need Him?
According to reports, Arsenal have failed in an attempt to sign Real Madrid attacker Isco during the January transfer window.
Isco moved to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2013 and although he made over 50 appearances in all competitions during his debut season, many of those came from off the substitutes bench.
His place in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting eleven has come under further threat following the arrival of James Rodriguez this summer which has led to speculation he could look for a move in search of more regular action, and the Express claim that Arsenal had made an attempt to bring the 22-year-old to the Emirates in January.
However, it looks like Madrid aren’t going to let the Spanish attacker leave any time soon with boss Ancelotti insisting they have full faith in the youngster.
“He had a great season last year and we have a lot of faith in him. He is the future of this squad.
“Isco and Illarramendi have a lot of personality and respect my decisions. They are always ready to play.”
Isco is a fine player and he would perhaps be the ideal replacement if we were looking to sell someone like Santi Cazorla, but otherwise I fail to see the need for another small, technical playmaker in the squad.
We have plenty of those ‘No.10’s’ already so a player like Isco is a luxury we don’t really need right now. If Arsene Wenger is going to spend any money this winter, I suspect he’d be better served signing a defensive midfielder or centre-back.
