Arsenal ‘Showed Late Interest’ In Prolific Hitman
Radamel Falcao’s father has confirmed that Arsenal showed late interest in signing the striker before he sealed a deadline day move to Manchester United.
Falcao was tipped to make a move to the Premier League during the closing stages of the summer window after long-term admirers Real Madrid failed to tie up a deal.
Monaco were keen to offload the Colombian international due to his high wages and the newspapers linked Arsenal and Manchester City with the striker on Sunday night and Monday morning.
Obviously Gooners were desperate for Falcao to join the club as he’s a world class goal-scorer but few were optimistic of seeing him rock up at the Emirates, especially with City in the running.
It was United who eventually snapped him up after agreeing a deal with Monaco on to take the 28-year-old on loan for a year with the view of making it permanent next summer, and most Arsenal fans dismissed the earlier reports suggesting we were even interested.
However, Falcao’s father has now confirmed that Arsenal were among the clubs who showed late interest in signing the striker. He said:
“He was very happy at Monaco but unfortunately, they changed the original plan and decided to sell the players they had bought,”
“The clubs that showed an interest were Juventus, Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal at the last minute,”
“Real Madrid chose not to. Thank God everything came through with United.” Radamel Garcia is quoted as saying by the BBC
In reality, our interest probably amounted to a phone-call to see how much the deal was going to cost us, only for Ivan Gazidis to quickly hang up when told about the strikers wage demands.
We were never going to pay what was needed to sign the South American as he’s on crazy money, but at least it’s good to hear we were ambitious enough to even enquire about a player of Falcao’s stature.
