PHOTOS: Vermaelen Poses In Barcelona Kit After Completing £15m Move
Thomas Vermaelen has completed his £15m move to Barcelona after signing a five-year deal with the Catalan giants today.
The Belgian international had been expected to leave this summer after losing his place in Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven, and with just one-year remaining on his contract, we’ve decided to sell now rather than lose him for nothing next summer.
Man Utd were strongly linked but Arsene admitted on Thursday that we’d rather sell abroad, and there are rumours we actually turned down a better offer from United to ensure he moved to Spain.
The deal was officially announced on Saturday but Vermaelen has been at the Nou Camp today posing for photos, where he also put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal.
I wish him all the best. He’s been a true pro during what’s been a difficult 18 months for him and he’s shown how a player should conduct himself when looking for a move. I actually think he’ll do very well at Barcelona, and I just hope we bring in an established centre-back to replace him.
Here are some photos of him in his new kit:
