Arsene Wenger Gives Update On Bacary Sagna Contract Situation

By on May 5, 2014

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has reiterated his desire to keep hold of right-back Bacary Sagna as talks over a contract extension for the player continue to stall.

Sagna is out of contract in June and so far we’ve been unable to agree terms over an extension despite holding several rounds of talks with his representatives.

A number of clubs are interested in signing the Frenchman and have reportedly offered better terms than we’ve so far put forward, leading to intense speculation he’s about to end his stay in North London.

However, speaking after yesterday’s 1-0 win over West Brom at the Emirates, Arsene told Arsenal.com that he wants Sagna to stay and hopes he’ll be able to convince him to remain at the club.

on Sagna’s future…

I want him to stay and I hope that convinces him that we love him here and he will stay. We have two players here who are at the end of their contracts, Sagna and Fabianski. If it was down to me, they both stay.

Like Arsene, I’m desperate for Sagna to stay and I’m still hopeful we can find an agreement, despite the tempting offers he’s got from clubs both here and abroad.

We’ve apparently offered him a two year deal worth around £80,000-a-week with the option of a third year, while he’s looking for a guaranteed three year deal worth £100,000-a-week, so we aren’t that far away.

The France international and his family seems settled in London and he’s never complained or aggravated for a move, so I still have a feeling he might end up staying.
