Wenger Reveals Injury Blow As Key Star Ruled Out
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss the remainder of our Premier League season but could be back in time to play a part in the FA Cup final.
The Ox has played a key role in recent months with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott all out and he was our stand-out performer against Wigan in the semi final of the FA Cup a couple of weeks ago.
However, it seems he aggravated a groin injury that day and the boss has confirmed the 20-year-old has been unable to train, which explains why he missed Monday’s 3-0 win over Newcastle.
The club have decided to give him two weeks rest to try and clear up the problem, which means Oxlade-Chamberlain will now miss our remaining league games against West Brom and Norwich, but Arsene is hopeful he could return to play at Wembley on the 17th May.
“He [Oxlade-Chamberlain] has an inflammation of his groin. He couldn’t practise. I put him on Friday on the team sheet and played him when he was needed, but it came to a point where it didn’t progress.”
“We decided to give him a complete rest for two weeks. Will he be involved with me? I think he has a chance. But will he be ready for England? I think so.” [source: Independent]
It’s a blow to lose The Ox for these last two games but thankfully we’ve got Ozil and Rambo back firing on all cylinders so we should be able to collect enough points to secure a top four place without him.
The FA Cup final seems like a realistic comeback date and hopefully he can get some minutes under his belt to show Roy Hodgson he’s fit enough to make his squad for the World Cup.
