Wenger Confirms Midfielder Set For Surprise Injury Return

Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning ahead of the Man City game and he’s confirmed that forgotten midfielder Abou Diaby is set to make a return to training.

The Frenchman has been on the sidelines for over a year after suffering as serious knee injury in training last season, and a number of set backs left staff assuming he wouldn’t return before the end of this season.

Many though it would spell the end of his playing career as it was the latest in a long line of injury problems that have plagued the 27-year-old’s career.

However, Diaby hinted earlier this month in an interview that he was hoping to get back in full training after undergoing intense rehabilitation in the Alps, and he even hadn’t given up hope of featuring at the World Cup.

Now, Arsene has confirmed the midfielder is due to resume first team training on April 1st (it’s not a joke!), and while he didn’t want to raise any expectation, he said perhaps Diaby could surprise us.

It really would be something of a miracle if Diaby was to take part in any of our run-in but you have to give the man huge credit for fighting on against all the injury problems he’s had.

He could have been one hell of a midfielder if he could just have stayed fit, but sadly he’ll be one of those players who’ll never have fulfilled his potential.
