Adam To Appeal FA Charge For Stamping On Olivier Giroud
Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has been charged by the Football Association for stamping on Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud during Saturday’s 1-0 loss at the Britannia.
The incident happened midway through the second half with the score still at 0-0, when Adam purposefully stood on Giroud’s leg as he lay on the floor.
A cowardly act by a cowardly player who gets away with this type of thing all too often, but thankfully the FA have had the balls to pull him up for it on this occasion.
Unfortunately it doesn’t help Arsenal as Adam stayed on the pitch on Saturday and we ended up losing the game. No doubt had the referee been competent and seen the blatant stamp at the time, the end result could have been very different.
We almost certainly wouldn’t have lost the match had Whelan also been sent off for his stamp on Giroud as well, not to mention the soft penalty.
They say these things even out over the course of the season, let’s hope so because we’re in for some good fortune over the next few games.
As I write this post Stoke have confirmed that Adam will appeal the charge, with a statement on their website saying:
“The Club have learnt within the last hour that The FA have chosen to charge Charlie Adam following an incident involving Olivier Giroud in Saturday’s Barclays Premier League game against Arsenal.
“Charlie and the Club are surprised and disappointed to learn of this and will appeal vigorously against the decision.”
The only thing he’s “surprised and disappointed” about is the fact he’s been charged, as he usually gets away with it. Knowing how clueless the FA are, they’ll probably let him off in the end….
