Report – Arsenal Line-Up Shock Swoop On Spurs
Reports in France claim Arsenal are interested in signing Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris at the end of the season.
The Frenchman was linked with us before he joined Spurs in 2012 and it has to be said he’s continued his fine form at White Hart Lane over the past two seasons.
However, the 27-year-old is expected to consider his future if the Spuds don’t qualify for the Champions League next season and Le10 Sport suggest that Arsenal are one of four teams who are ready to offer him a way out.
The other interested parties are supposedly Atletico Madrid, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, but it’s Arsenal’s apparent interest that’s caught the eye.
I have my doubts over this report as I don’t see a first choice goalkeeper as being a priority this summer for Arsene Wenger due to the form of Wojciech Szczesny this season.
We’re certainly going to be in the market for a new No.2 to replace Lukasz Fabianski – who’s leaving when his contract expires in June – but I really don’t see Lloris agreeing to be an understudy and Wenger is highly unlikely to replace Szczesny as he’s shown way too much faith in the young Pole.
This report comes out after Olivier Giroud revealed last week that he had spoken to Lloris and claimed his compatriot would be keen on joining him at the Emirates, but the keeper quickly shot-down those suggestions, calling them ’embarrassing’.
Despite his denial, I have no doubt Lloris would make a move to Arsenal if given the chance – it’s only natural a player would want to step up a level in his career – and it would be hilarious to take Tottenham’s first choice keeper, but I really don’t see anything coming of this.
If Lloris does leave Spurs, which hopefully he will, then I can see him joining PSG as it looks like Monaco will be signing Victor Valdes from Barcelona.
