Arsenal frontrunners to sign Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi
Arsenal are the frontrunners to sign highly rated German U21 international centre-forward Nicolo Tresoldi from Club Brugge, according to Italian outlet Tuttosport.
The 22-year-old has been one of the most prolific young centre-forwards in Europe in recent seasons. He started his career in Germany with Hannover, coming through the club’s academy before making 79 appearances for the senior side, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists in all competitions.
His performances soon caught Brugge’s attention, and they signed him last summer as part of their continued focus on recruiting young talent.
The move has worked out well for both parties, with Tresoldi recording 41 goal contributions since arriving at the Jan Breydel Stadium. He scored 19 goals in the Jupiler Pro League last season, finishing as the league’s top scorer, and helped Brugge win the domestic double.
Frontrunners
He has carried that form into the current campaign, scoring nine goals in 11 games already, including a hat-trick at the San Siro in the 4-3 UEFA Champions League win over Inter Milan last week.
Now, according to Tuttosport, Tresoldi’s prolific form has piqued the interest of several clubs across Europe, including Arsenal.
It appears Mikel Arteta’s side are looking to steal a march on other rivals, as the report adds that the Gunners are the frontrunners to sign the 22-year-old, having tracked him over the last six months.
While his current valuation is unclear, the Italian outlet adds that Brugge demanded a £50m offer to consider selling the 6ft 1in forward in the summer transfer window and even rejected a £25m+ offer from AS Roma.
However, Arsenal are set to face competition from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Dortmund, and Tottenham Hotspur, who have also shown interest in the Italian-born German U21 international, according to the report, so they’ll need to act swiftly to complete the deal.
Arsenal left it late to record their second successive Premier League win, with Noni Madueke coming off the bench to net the decisive goal against Nottingham Forest. The 1-0 win marked the 32nd time the Gunners won a game with the same scoreline since Mikel Arteta took charge of the club.
