Arsenal hold the edge to sign Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa
Arsenal reportedly hold the edge to sign RB Leipzig forward Antonio Nusa, as per Football Insider.
After winning the Premier League title last term, the Gunners enjoyed a promising start this season, winning seven consecutive matches across all competitions.
However, they entered the long international break having endured a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion. But Mikel Arteta’s side returned to winning ways by defeating Leeds United last weekend.
Moreover, they overcame LOSC Lille’s challenge in the Champions League in midweek. Currently, Arsenal are second in the Premier League table with three points less than league leaders Manchester City. On the other hand, Arsenal are the only club yet to concede a goal in Europe’s elite club competition.
Meanwhile, it appears Arteta’s side have already started exploring options to strengthen the squad next year, and they want a new left-sided forward.
Now, Football Insider report that Arsenal have identified Nusa as a serious option and are prepared to make a move in January if he becomes available.
Apart from the North London club, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are also in this race. But the Villans and the Emirates club hold the edge over the Magpies to seal the deal.
Nusa to Arsenal
The report state that Nusa has a contract until 2029; therefore, Leipzig are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in in January and want around £60m.
Nusa is a technically gifted right-footed left-winger. He has enjoyed a promising start this season, making seven goal contributions across all competitions.
Having shown glimpses of his qualities in club football, the 21-year-old has secured his place in the Norway national team.
Despite selling Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard this summer, Arsenal only purchased Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. So, the Emirates club could do with signing a new left-winger.
Nusa is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
