Former defender turned pundit Micah Richards has heaped praise on Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly.

After coming through the Hale End academy, the 20-year-old made his first-team debut back in 2024. Initially, he featured as a left-back and rotational option.

However, the youngster has played regularly in the midfield department in recent months and helped his side win the Premier League last campaign.

This season, he has registered a solitary assist in six appearances across all competitions. After being impressed by his performances at the Emirates Stadium, Thomas Tuchel selected Lewis-Skelly in the England squad for the September/October international fixtures.

Now, on The Rest is Football podcast, Richards states (via Metro) that Lewis-Skelly is one of his favourite players as the youngster is technically sound, strong, quick and has football intelligence despite being still very young.

Moreover, the pundit claims that Lewis-Skelly is too good to be on the bench as he is ‘unbelievable’ and is ‘one of the best young players’ in the world.

Richards said:

“Myles Lewis-Skelly is one of my favourite players. Technically he’s very good, he’s strong and fast, he has football intelligence and he’s still so young as well. Lewis-Skelly is too good to be on the bench. He’s one of the best young players I’ve seen at his age and that’s not an exaggeration. He’s unbelievable, such a delight.”

Lewis-Skelly, valued at around £55m by Transfermarkt, was linked with a move away this summer but the Emirates club eventually managed to keep hold of him.

Arsenal currently have Bruno Guimaraes, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi as deeper midfield options, alongside Lewis-Skelly. So, although the 20-year-old has featured regularly thus far this season, he might struggle to continue playing in the future.

On the other hand, Arteta currently has Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié as left-back options. Nevertheless, Lewis-Skelly is a top-class player and possesses high potential. Therefore, Arsenal need to find a way to keep him happy by giving him regular game time.

Meanwhile, following the conclusion of the international break, Arsenal are set to resume their campaign against Leeds United in the Premier League this weekend before taking on LOSC Lille in the Champions League next week.
