Arsenal ready to launch fresh swoop to sign Julian Alvarez in January

By on October 11, 2026

Arsenal are plotting a swoop to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid in January after last summer’s failed transfer, as per TEAMtalk.

After ending the 2025-26 campaign successfully with a Premier League title, Arsenal entered the summer transfer market looking to add more firepower to their forward line.

Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Jr. were among the prominent names linked with a move to the Emirates, but neither pursuit produced the desired outcome. Rogers instead joined London rivals Chelsea in a record-breaking transfer, while Vinicius committed his future to Real Madrid by agreeing to an improved contract extension at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Christos Tzolis ultimately proved to be the Gunners’ sole attacking recruit during the window. Although the Greek international has made an encouraging impression, Arsenal’s attacking output remains the lowest among the current top four, highlighting the need for further reinforcements.

Viktor Gyokeres’ struggles have added to those concerns, with last season’s leading Arsenal goalscorer yet to find the net in the current campaign.

His difficult start has prompted the club to explore potential centre-forward options, with the latest being Atletico’s Alvarez, who will likely cost above his £93m Transfermarkt valuation.

This is according to TEAMtalk, which reports that Arsenal are planning to reignite their interest in Alvarez in the January transfer window.

Alvarez to Arsenal

The North London club’s director, Andrea Berta, held direct talks with Atletico’s hierarchy to discuss Alvarez’s transfer and was willing to submit a formal offer of over £100m, while players including Noni Madueke, Ethan Nwaneri and Gyokeres were also discussed as part of the deal, according to the report.

Despite being professional after a departure was rebuffed last summer, TEAMtalk claims that the 26-year-old remains unhappy at the Metropolitano.

This has led to renewed hope from Arsenal to launch a fresh swoop for the Argentine international, who could now potentially be open to a move to the Emirates, according to the report.

In addition, the report adds that despite holding an admiration for Alvarez, LaLiga giants Barcelona are exploring other options, including Erling Haaland, making Arsenal his preferred alternative option.

The Gunners are also presenting the clearest pathway for the former Manchester City forward should he leave Atletico amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, TEAMtalk adds.

Following their loss to Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal will hope to return to winning ways when they host an unbeaten fifth-place Leeds United side at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.
