Arsenal in contact to sign Leverkusen’s Christian Kofane
Arsenal have reportedly been in contact over a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen forward Christian Kofane, as per German outlet SportBild.
Despite selling Gabriel Jesus to Barcelona this summer, the Gunners decided not to purchase a new striker. So, Mikel Arteta currently has Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres as No.9 options.
However, Havertz has had a few fitness problems in recent months, while Gyokeres has failed to find his feet in the Premier League since joining from Sporting CP last year.
The Swedish international even featured as a rotational option before the international break. Therefore, Arsenal could do with signing a new striker.
Now, while citing and translating the print version of SportBild, Sport Witness report that Arsenal have expressed their interest in Kofane after being impressed by his recent eye-catching performances.
Initially, they wanted to buy him this summer, but a deal didn’t come to fruition. However, Arsenal have continued to hold talks with the player’s representatives over a potential swoop in the future.
Apart from the North London club, Manchester United have also been in conversation with the player’s camp. However, Leverkusen want to keep hold of him and are planning to tie him down to a fresh contract with a salary hike.

But the report state that negotiations regarding a new deal haven’t progressed at all, with his existing deal set to run until 2029. Even if he extends his deal at BayArena, Arsenal and Man Utd are likely to continue pursuing him.
The 20-year-old is a 6ft 2in tall right-footed striker. After joining Leverkusen from Albacete Balompié last year, he featured as a rotational option in his debut campaign.
Still, he showcased his productivity, making 13 goal contributions in all tournaments. This season, he has enjoyed a promising start, scoring three goals in a solitary start across all competitions.
Kofane is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
