Arsenal considering making a move to sign Peyton Miller
Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a swoop to sign New England Revolution defender Peyton Miller, as per TEAMtalk.
Since moving to the Emirates Stadium from Bologna a couple of years ago, Riccardo Calafiori has had a few fitness problems. Still, he has shown glimpses of his high qualities.
Apart from the Italian, the Gunners currently have Piero Hincapié as an option for the left-back position. The Ecuadorian joined on loan from Bayer Leverkusen last year before the deal became permanent this summer.
Moreover, Myles Lewis-Skelly can provide cover on the left side of the defence if needed, although he is a midfielder by trait. So, Arsenal are currently well-stocked in the LB position; still, it appears they are exploring options with a view to the long-term future.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are interested in Miller and sent scouts to watch him play for the USA during these international matches.
Apart from the Emirates club, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Barcelona have also been monitoring his development, as per the report, so Arsenal could face stiff competition.
However, New England Revolution will be extremely reluctant to let him leave, having recently tied him down to a fresh long-term contract until 2030. Miller is even happy to stay and continue his development in MLS.
Miller is a left-footed left-back and is efficient on both ends of the pitch. After coming through New England Revolution’s youth system, the defender made his first-team debut at the age of 16.
Miller to Arsenal
Initially, he featured as a rotational option before playing regularly in recent times. In 24 MLS appearances, the 18-year-old has scored seven goals and registered four assists this year. Moreover, the youngster has helped his side keep two clean sheets.
Miller is quick, can deliver crosses from the flank, is efficient in finishing off his chances, and can also create opportunities for the forwards.
Miller is a highly talented player and could reach the top. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his services in January or next summer.
