Atlético Madrid ready to sell Julian Alvarez to Arsenal

By on August 22, 2026

Atlético Madrid are reportedly prepared to sell Julián Álvarez to Arsenal, as per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

Despite winning the Premier League title last term, the Gunners have been very busy in this window to freshen up the squad and challenge on all fronts once again next season.

They have already signed Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimaraes; moreover, Ezri Konsa has joined from Aston Villa following William Saliba and Jurrien Timber’s fitness problems.

Now, Mundo Deportivo report that Arsenal are also interested in strengthening the No.9 position despite already having Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus and have identified Alvarez as a serious option.

Los Rojiblancos are prepared to let the Argentinian international move to the Emirates Stadium, and Arsenal are ready to allow Gyokeres to join the Spanish capital to help them replace Alvarez.

After joining Arteta’s side from Sporting CP last summer, Gyokeres was their top scorer, but he displayed inconsistent performances. So, the report state that Arsenal are ready to cash in on him, and he has been offered to several clubs, including Barcelona.

But Diego Simeone is open to signing him at Atlético Madrid. However, Alvarez doesn’t want to return to England, having previously enjoyed great success with Manchester City, and is keen on joining Barcelona.

With the forward keen on leaving, Atlético Madrid consider the situation untenable but have no intention of letting the 26-year-old join the Blaugrana.

Meanwhile, another Spanish publication, Sport, report that Arsenal are offering a formal £69m proposal plus Gyokeres to sign Alvarez. They are even ready to offer the forward a £ 21m-a-year gross salary to persuade him to join.

Since moving to Estadio Metropolitano from Man City, Alvarez has showcased his productivity over the last two campaigns. However, he hasn’t been able to win any major silverware. On the other hand, he has won two Copa America trophies, a World Cup, and the Finalissima with Argentina.

The South American is one of the best forwards in the world and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium before the end of this transfer window.
