Arsenal urged to sign Victor Osimhen to retain PL title

By on August 19, 2026

Former midfielder turned pundit Joe Cole has urged Arsenal to sign Victor Osimhen to retain the Premier League title this season.

After moving to the Emirates Stadium from Sporting CP, Viktor Gyokeres helped his side win the league title last term. He was even the Gunners’ highest scorer, netting 21 times and registering three assists in 55 appearances across all competitions.

However, he displayed inconsistent performances at times. Apart from the Swedish international, the North London club currently have Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz as striker options.

However, Jesus has been linked with a move away, with his existing deal set to run until next summer. On the other hand, Havertz has had fitness problems in recent months.

Now, on the Dressing Room podcast, Cole says that Arsenal don’t have enough quality options in the No.9 position to retain the Premier League title this season. So, Manchester City could win the league this time around.

However, if Arsenal sign a top-class goal-scorer like Osimhen, they might be able to become the English champions once again.

Cole said:

“I’ve been flipping and I’m going to put an asterisk on this. I think Man City win the title if Arsenal don’t bring in a No. 9 because I still think that will be a problem for them.

“So I’m going to go Man City to win the league ahead of Arsenal but if they bring in Victor Osimhen, I would flip it back. But as it stands I’m going for Man City.”

Arsenal urged to sign Osimhen

Since moving to Rams Park Stadyumu from Napoli, the Nigerian has showcased his productivity in recent campaigns. After making 44 goal contributions during the 2024/25 season, he scored 22 goals and registered six assists across all competitions last term.

With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2029, Galatasaray aren’t in any rush to sell him this summer, with the player valued at around £64m by Transfermarkt.

The 27-year-old is currently at the prime stage of his career and possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in the Premier League. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually listen to Cole’s advice and make a move for the former Napoli forward.
