Arsenal reach agreement to sign Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa

By on August 19, 2026

Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, as per transfer journalist David Ornstein.

Despite winning the Premier League title last term, the Gunners have decided to refresh the squad this summer to maintain their level next campaign. They have signed Illan Meslier to add depth to the goalkeeping department.

After letting Leandro Trossard join Besiktas, Arsenal have purchased Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge to bolster the left flank. Moreover, they have signed Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

Earlier, on The Athletic, Ornstein reported that following William Saliba and Jurrien Timber’s injury problems, Arsenal have decided to reinforce the backline this summer.

Although they have explored the possibility of signing Jarell Quansah from Bayer Leverkusen, Konsa is their primary target. Following ownership-level discussions between Arsenal and Aston Villa, the valuation gap between the two clubs reduced and work was advancing.

However, Ornstein has now stated that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign Konsa, with the Gunners set to spend around £51m in guaranteed fee plus add-ons.

Konsa has already said goodbye to the Aston Villa teammates and staff, with the defender set to undergo his medical on Thursday.

Amid Timber and Saliba’s absence, Arsenal currently has Cristhian Mosquera and Ben White as the only available options to deploy in the RCB and RB roles. However, White has had numerous fitness problems in recent years.

Konsa to Arsenal

Konsa is a 6ft tall right-footed centre-back by trait but can provide cover in the right-back position if needed. Mikel Arteta likes having versatile defenders and has signed Timber, White, Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié in recent years. They can provide cover in the CB and fullback positions.

Konsa has proven his worth in the Premier League in recent years and has secured his place in the England national team’s starting line-up.

Last season, the Englishman helped Aston Villa win the Europa League title. In 48 appearances across all competitions, Konsa scored twice and kept 15 clean sheets. He even helped his side finish fourth in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old is a highly talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal.
