Arsenal to launch formal proposal to sign Ezri Konsa

By on August 18, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly preparing to launch a formal proposal to sign Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa, as per Football Insider.

After picking up a back injury on international duty with France, William Saliba is set to remain sidelined for several months. On the other hand, Jurrien Timber has been sidelined due to an injury over the last few months.

Therefore, the Gunners currently have Cristhian Mosquera and Ben White as the only available options to deploy in the RCB and RB positions. However, White has had numerous fitness problems in recent years.

Mosquera, meanwhile, has shown glimpses of his high potential since joining from Valencia last summer. However, he is still very young and his game time needs to be managed carefully to help him reach his full potential.

Now, Football Insider state that Arsenal have identified Konsa as the top target to reinforce the defence due to his ability to play in the centre-back and right-back positions. The two parties have even already agreed on personal terms.

The North London club previously launched a formal £30m proposal to sign him, but Aston Villa rejected the bid. Now, Arsenal are planning to submit an improved second offer worth around £40m, but Unai Emery’s side want a fee closer to £60m, with his existing deal set to run until 2028.

Since moving to Villa Park from Brentford, the 28-year-old has established himself as an undisputed starter, helping his side win the Europa League last campaign.

Konsa to Arsenal

In 48 appearances across all competitions, Konsa scored twice and kept 15 clean sheets last term. Having proven his worth in club football, he secured his place in England’s World Cup squad, helping his country reach the semi-final before losing to Argentina.

Konsa, standing at 6ft tall, is quick, strong, good in the air, technically sound, and extremely comfortable playing out from the back. Moreover, he is efficient in defensive contributions.

The Englishman is a Premier League-proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his services before the end of this transfer window.
