Arsenal ready to pay hefty fee to sign Jules Kounde

By on August 14, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to pay a hefty fee to sign Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, as per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The Gunners currently have Cristhian Mosquera, Jurrien Timber and Ben White as available options to deploy on the right side of the defence following William Saliba’s recent serious injury.

Timber, White and Mosquera are all versatile players as they can provide cover in the centre-back and right-back positions. However, Timber has been out injured over the last few months, while White has had numerous fitness issues in recent years.

Mosquera, meanwhile, has shown glimpses of his qualities since joining from Valencia last summer. However, he is still very young and needs time to develop. So, it appears Arsenal are considering purchasing a new right-footed defender.

While translating the print version of Mundo Deportivo, Sport Witness report that Mikel Arteta’s side are keen on signing Kounde and are ready to pay a hefty transfer fee to seal the deal.

The 27-year-old’s existing deal is set to run until 2030, and he is considering staying at Camp Nou. But he is unlikely to be a regular starter next season, so Barcelona are prepared to cash-in on him for a substantial fee.

Liverpool and Manchester City have also expressed their interest in the France international. However, Arsenal are showing the most interest in signing him.

Kounde to Arsenal

Kounde used to be a centre-back for Sevilla but has been featuring as a right-back for club and country over the last few years. He is quick, strong, good in the air and comfortable playing out from the back.

Moreover, he can play threading passes between the lines and is efficient in defensive contributions. In 47 appearances across all competitions, he made seven goal contributions and kept 10 clean sheets last campaign.

Kounde, valued at around £51m by Transfermarkt, has enjoyed great success with the Catalan giants in recent years, winning three La Liga titles and a few domestic cup competitions.

He is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually manage to purchase him in this window.
