Arsenal interested in signing West Ham’s Wan-Bissaka

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing West Ham United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as per the Daily Mail.

The Gunners currently have Jurrien Timber and Ben White as specialist right-back options. However, the Dutchman has been out injured over the last few months, while the Englishman has had numerous fitness problems in recent years.

Cristhian Mosquera can also provide cover at right-back, but amid William Saliba’s absence through injury, the Spaniard is likely to feature at right centre-back unless Arsenal decide to sign a new CB.

Now, the Daily Mail report that Arsenal are interested in signing a new right-back and have identified Wan-Bissaka as a potential target. Following West Ham’s relegation, the 28-year-old is likely to leave to continue playing in the top-flight.

However, Aston Villa are currently in pole position to finalise the operation, having already held discussions. Apart from Wan-Bissaka, Unai Emery’s side are also interested in Flamengo defender Emerson Royal to bolster the RB position.

Wan-Bissaka is valued at around £13m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2031. So, the Hammers are in a strong position to demand a sizable amount of money for him.

Wan-Bissaka is a right-back by trait but can provide cover on the opposite side if needed. Moreover, he is efficient in the RWB and LWB roles. He is quick, strong, and excellent in defensive contributions.

Wan-Bissaka to Arsenal

After displaying promising performances for Crystal Palace, Wan-Bissaka joined Manchester United back in 2019. He showed glimpses of his qualities at Old Trafford, helping his side win the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, before moving to the London Stadium a couple of years ago.

In 25 Premier League appearances last campaign, the former Man Utd man registered two assists and kept three clean sheets.

Wan-Bissaka is a talented Premier League-proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he might be a shrewd, affordable acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services before the September 1st transfer deadline day.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have already bolstered the attacking department and engine room by purchasing Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimaraes, respectively, this summer.
