Arsenal plot surprise swoop to sign Chelsea’s Pedro Neto

Arsenal are reportedly interested in sealing a surprise deal for Chelsea forward Pedro Neto, as per the Blues journalist Simon Phillips.

The Gunners have signed several players from the West London club in recent years, with David Luiz, Willian, Jorginho, Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, Noni Madueke and Kepa Arrizabalaga being among them.

However, Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t signed anyone from Chelsea so far this window. But Phillips’ recent claim (via TEAMtalk) indicates that this could change over the coming days.

The journalist says that Arsenal are interested in signing Neto and Xabi Alonso’s side would be open to letting him leave if they receive an offer of at least £70m.

Neto is even tempted by the prospect of taking a new challenge in his career, but the Portuguese isn’t the North London club’s priority target to reinforce the flanks.

Phillips reports that apart from Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have also expressed their interest in signing the Chelsea star.

Phillips said:

“I have heard from a source over the weekend that Arsenal are also interested in Neto. I don’t believe it’s anything like they are prioritising or anything like that, but they are definitely a club who are showing interest in Neto as well, and Neto is appealed by all this interest coming in.”

Neto to Arsenal

Neto is a left-footed versatile forward as he is comfortable on either flank. He is quick, strong, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and also works hard without possession.

After moving to Stamford Bridge from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2024, Neto helped his side win the Club World Cup and Conference League during his debut campaign.

Although Chelsea displayed inconsistent performances last term, the 26-year-old showed glimpses of his qualities, making 20 goal contributions across all competitions.

Neto is a Premier League-proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

Following Leandro Trossard’s departure, Arsenal have purchased Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. But Arteta’s side want a new winger and have been linked with a few names, with Neto emerging as a new target.

It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure Neto’s services ahead of next season.
