Photos – Bruno Guimarães poses in Arsenal kit after completing £75m move

Bruno Guimarães has been posing in his new kit after completing his £75m move to Arsenal from Newcastle United.

Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta have been working hard trying to strengthen the squad this summer and a new central midfielder was identified as a priority.

Guimarães soon became the clubs top target and after weeks of negotiations, Arsenal finally agreed a fee with Newcastle after the midfielder made it clear he wanted to make the move to North London.

The 28-year-old was given permission to travel to London from Newcastle’s pre-season training camp last week. He underwent his medical tests and finalised terms over his move to the Premier League champions.

Arsenal have now confirmed on Arsenal.com that Guimarães has joined the club on a long term contract, with many journalists claiming it’s a four year deal with the option of a further year.

While the fee hasn’t been disclosed, Sky Sports News are one of several outlets reporting that Arsenal have paid £75m. In today’s market, that’s a steal for a player of Guimarães’ quality but it’s worth noting that he was in the final year of his contract so it’s a good deal for all parties.

The Brazilian international has been posing in his new Arsenal kit after completing the move, and it’s safe to say he looks delighted to have finally joined the Gunners.

The former Lyon star will wear the No.39 shirt and has already been training with his new team-mates at London Colney as he prepares for the upcoming season.

Having won the title last season, it was vital Arsenal didn’t stand still. Bruno’s arrival strengthens our midfield immensely as he’s one of the best central midfielders in Europe and he should prove to be a super addition to the squad.

Declan Rice was run into the ground last season, while Martin Zubimendi’s form dropped off a cliff during the final months as he ran out of gas. Guimarães will lighten the load and allow Arteta to rotate his midfielders to greater effect without compromising on quality.

I think he’ll be a sensational signing but it’s going to be interesting to see what Arteta’s first choice eleven will be. Most feel Guimarães will partner Rice with Martin Odegaard slightly further forward, leaving the likes of Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Eberechi Eze on the bench.

That is impressive depth in the middle of the park, and Arsenal now have one of the best midfields in Europe. Hopefully the club can now focus on strengthening our attack and bring in at least one top class forward before the end of the month.
