Arsenal remain keen on signing Julian Alvarez

Arsenal reportedly remain keen on signing Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, as per TEAMtalk.

The Gunners currently have Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres as options to deploy in the centre-forward position. However, the Swedish international displayed inconsistent performances last term.

On the other hand, Havertz has had a few fitness problems in recent months; as a result, he started only nine matches across the Premier League and Champions League last term.

Jesus, meanwhile, has found it difficult to stay fit since joining from Manchester City. He has entered the final 12 months of his current contract, so his future is currently uncertain at Arsenal.

As a result, it appears Arsenal are planning to sign a new striker this summer. TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are interested in signing Alvarez, but Barcelona are currently the frontrunners in this race.

The Blaugrana previously launched a formal £86m proposal to sign him, but Atlético Madrid have no intention of letting him join a La Liga rival. So, they have also turned down a £128m bid from Real Madrid.

Barcelona representatives have travelled to Madrid to hold talks with the player’s entourage and Los Rojiblancos to finalise the operation and are prepared to submit an improved offer of around £99m.

Alvarez to Arsenal

However, the report state that Atlético Madrid are more open to selling Alvarez abroad rather than to Barcelona. Paris Saint-Germain have maintained dialogue with the Spanish giants over this deal.

But Arsenal have also been in dialogue and are working hard to place themselves at the front of the queue to sign him if his move to Barcelona eventually falls through.

Having previously worked at Atletico Madrid, Andrea Berta has close connections with them, and he has been using his connections to lure Alvarez to the Emirates Stadium.

After talking with Alvarez’s representatives, Arsenal have understood that the Argentinian would be open to moving to London if Barcelona eventually fail to purchase him.

The Atletico Madrid star is one of the best forwards in the world and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his services during this offseason.
