Arsenal ready to submit audacious offer to sign Joao Pedro

Arsenal have made an audacious attempt to sign Chelsea centre-forward Joao Pedro this summer, according to Brazilian outlet Globo.

Despite Chelsea’s disappointing 2025-26 season, in which they finished 10th, Joao Pedro enjoyed an exceptional, prolific individual campaign, with his finishing being described as ‘world class’ by Liam Rosenior.

The 24-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge last summer from Brighton & Hove Albion and wasted no time making his mark, notably scoring a brace against his former club Fluminense in the Club World Cup. He went on to net again in the final against Paris Saint-Germain as the Blues emerged 3-0 winners.

One might think the shift in tempo to the more physical, demanding nature of the Premier League would see him drop his pace, but the Brazilian remained unfazed, netting 15 goals and providing eight assists.

Only Erling Haaland (27), Igor Thiago (22) and Antoine Semenyo (17) netted more Premier League goals than him, while his 31 goal contributions in all competitions were the most by any Chelsea centre-forward since Diogo Costa.

His performance did not go unnoticed, with several clubs reportedly placing him on their radar for a potential transfer.

One of the clubs looking to sign Joao Pedro is Arsenal, according to Globo, which claims that the north Londoners have expressed interest in signing the 6ft 1in forward alongside Barcelona.

Audacious swoop

It appears the Gunners are already looking to accelerate their efforts, with the report adding that the Premier League champions are willing to submit an audacious £85m offer for the possible transfer of the Brazilian to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

However, the Brazilian outlet adds that Chelsea have immediately rebuffed Arsenal’s approach and are now set to renew Joao Pedro’s contract until 2033 with a salary increase.

Arsenal have been linked with several centre-forwards this summer, indicating the club could potentially make another addition to the position despite already having Viktor Gyokeres.

The north Londoners have particularly been reportedly linked with Julian Alvarez, but Atletico Madrid’s firm stance on retaining the Argentine international has made any potential deal improbable.

Mikel Arteta still has Gabriel Jesus as another centre-forward option in his ranks, while Kai Havertz has proven to be a reliable outlet whenever deployed in that role.

However, Gabriel Jesus’ deal is set to run out at the end of the 2026-27 season, which explains why the club are considering another striker.

With Chelsea also showing a hardened stance on Joao Pedro, it’ll be interesting to see if Arsenal will turn their attention to other targets or keep faith in their current options.
