Arsenal hold discussions to sign Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa
Arsenal have reportedly held discussions over a deal to sign Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa, as per The Athletic.
After moving to the Emirates Stadium from Saint-Étienne, William Saliba initially struggled to break into Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up. So, he went out on loan several times to play regularly and develop his career.
Since making his debut for the reigning Premier League champions back in 2022, the Frenchman has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
In 50 appearances across all competitions, the 25-year-old made two goal contributions last campaign. Moreover, he helped his side keep 24 clean sheets.
Having proven his worth in club football, Saliba has secured his place in France’s starting line-up, helping his country reach the World Cup semi-final before losing to eventual champions Spain.
Now, The Athletic report that Arsenal were already considering signing a new centre-back and attempted to buy Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in January before his move to Manchester City.
However, following Saliba’s recent injury, the North London club are set to intensify their efforts to sign a new CB this summer and have already discussed the possibility of signing Konsa.
Konsa to Arsenal
Apart from the 28-year-old, Arsenal are also interested in John Stones and Jacobo Ramon, but the 32-year-old is closing in on a move to Inter Milan.
Konsa is valued at around £38m by Transfermarkt and has entered the final two years of his current contract. Therefore, Aston Villa are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in on him.
Having already sold Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans, Unai Emery might be reluctant to lose another of his top stars this summer.
Konsa is a right-footed centre-back by trait but can provide cover at right-back if needed. He has proven his worth in the Premier League in recent years and has secured his place in England’s starting line-up.
He is a top-class player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, Konsa might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his services during this offseason.
