Arsenal reckindle interest in signing Madrid star Rordygo

Arsenal have rekindled their interest in signing Real Madrid winger Rodrygo this summer, according to Fichajes.

Rodrygo’s name has always been a hot topic during transfer windows, unsurprisingly, due to his world-class qualities.

He has played a crucial role in Madrid’s success in domestic and European competitions since arriving from Santos in the summer of 2019.

Individually, the 25-year-old has provided 128 goal contributions in over 200 games for the Los Blancos and was one of the club’s most reliable outlets during their famous Champions League comebacks under Carlo Ancelotti.

However, following Kylian Mbappé’s arrival last season, things didn’t go as planned: former coach Xabi Alonso preferred a Vinícius-Mbappé attack, while the right wing was constantly rotated among Vinícius, Brahim Díaz, and Arda Güler.

Rodrygo’s season became even bleaker after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and lateral meniscus injury in his right knee in a LaLiga clash against Getafe in March, which ruled him out of the campaign.

Despite the injury setback, the winger’s qualities remain unquestionable, and it’s no surprise he remains of keen interest to several clubs, including Arsenal.

This is according to Fichajes, which claims that the Premier League champions have rekindled their interest in signing Rodrygo.

Ideal fit

Following the departure of Leandro Trossard, Arsenal are looking to add to their attack and have earmarked the 25-year-old as an ideal fit due to his top-flight experience and versatility, according to the report.

While any potential transfer hinges on his physical condition, the Gunners are optimistic that Rodrygo will remain one of the most dangerous wingers in Europe once he fully recovers, Fichajes adds.

Rodrygo has built a reputation for delivering on football’s biggest occasions. Since arriving from Santos, the Brazilian has played a key role in Madrid’s success, helping the club lift two UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns, two UEFA Super Cup titles, three Supercopa de España titles, one Copa del Rey, and one FIFA Club World Cup.

That wealth of silverware, combined with 128 goal contributions, would make Rodrygo an outstanding option for Arsenal on the left flank, providing Mikel Arteta with a proven, world-class, goal-threatening forward.

With two years left in his contract at the Bernabeu, it remains to be seen if Madrid would be keen on retaining him or consider offers above his £38m Transfermarkt valuation amid interest from Arsenal.
