Arsenal interested in signing Konstantinos Mavropanos
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing West Ham United defender Konstantinos Mavropanos, as per Sky Sports.
After moving to the Emirates Stadium from Greek side PAS Giannina back in 2018, the 28-year-old struggled to adapt to the Premier League’s physicality.
Therefore, the Greek international went out on loan on a couple of occasions before joining Stuttgart permanently back in 2022.
Having been impressed by his performances in the Bundesliga, the Hammers decided to purchase him the following year. Initially, he featured as a rotational option before establishing himself as a key starter.
In 31 Premier League appearances last term, Mavropanos scored three goals and kept six clean sheets. However, he failed to help his side avoid relegation.
Now, Sky Sports report that the defender has been attracting a lot of attention in this window, with Arsenal showing an interest in bringing him back as they admire him very much.
Mavropanos is valued at around £15m by Transfermarkt and his existing deal is set to run until 2028. So, the East London club are likely to demand a sizable amount of money if they are forced to cash-in on him.
Mavropanos to Arsenal
He is a 6ft 4in tall right-footed centre-back. He is quick, strong, good in the air, and efficient in defensive contributions. The West Ham star is a Premier League proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career.
Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal to add depth to the backline should they purchase him for a reasonable price.
However, Arsenal currently have William Saliba and Cristhian Mosquera as options to deploy in the RCB position. Moreover, Jurrien Timber and Ben White can provide cover in this position if needed.
Therefore, the Gunners don’t need to invest more to add further depth to this position unless anyone leaves. Instead, they would be better off saving the funds to upgrade the frontline.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium during this offseason.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have signed Illan Meslier as a free agent this summer to add depth to the goalkeeping department.
