Mikel Arteta ‘big fan’ of Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly a ‘big fan’ of Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa but face a battle to sign him this summer, as per Football Insider.
Since moving to Villa Park from Brentford back in 2019, the 28-year-old has established himself as an undisputed starter, helping his side win the Europa League last campaign.
The centre-back showcased his qualities last term, scoring twice and keeping 15 clean sheets in 48 appearances across all competitions.
Having proven his worth in club football, Konsa has secured his place in England’s World Cup squad, guiding his country to the quarter-final. They are set to face Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard’s Norway.
Now, Football Insider state that Arteta is a ‘big fan’ of the Aston Villa star, who is comfortable at right-back and in CB, as he feels Konsa would be an ideal option to play in his system.
However, Unai Emery’s side have no intention of parting ways with their star players this summer, having qualified for next season’s Champions League. So, they are prepared to rebuff any approach from Arsenal regarding Konsa.
Apart from the former Brentford star, Arsenal are also interested in Morgan Rogers, but Aston Villa are keen to keep hold of him, with his existing deal set to run until 2031.
It has been suggested that Aston Villa need to raise funds by selling stars to balance the books, but Emery doesn’t want to lose key players.
Konsa to Arsenal
The 28-year-old is valued at around £35m by Transfermarkt and his existing deal is set to run until 2028. So, Arsenal will have to launch an unrefusable proposal to persuade the Villans to sell him.
He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions. He is a Premier League proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career.
Therefore, the Englishman would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. With Ben White struggling with fitness problems, the Emirates club could do with signing a new right-back.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure Konsa’s services.
