Wenger’s Injury Update: Giroud, Gibbs, Walcott + Wilshere The Latest Casualties

Arsene Wenger held his pre-match press conference this morning ahead of Wednesday’s match with Cardiff City at the Emirates and has revealed some worrying team news.
Wenger has said that Aaron Ramsey will be out for around 3 weeks while Mesut Ozil is now likely to be out for a similar amount of time with a shoulder injury, despite initially claiming it would only keep him out for around a week.
As well as those two the boss has named a further SEVEN players who could miss the New Years Day clash.
Olivier Giroud and Kieran Gibbs are both definitely out after picking up ankle and calf injuries against Newcastle, while Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky are all major doubts after also picking up knocks.
Nacho Monreal and Thomas Vermaelen are still considered doubts due to the illness that kept them out of our game at St James’ Park, so it’s fair to say our squad is going to be stretched to it’s limits.
Just to confirm the state of play:
OUT:
- Mesut Ozil
- Aaron Ramsey
- Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
- Olivier Giroud
- Kieran Gibbs
- Yaya Sanogo
- Abou Diaby
DOUBTS:
- Jack Wilshere
- Tomas Rosicky
- Theo Walcott
- Nacho Monreal
- Thomas Vermaelen
That’s 12 players who could miss the Cardiff game. I’m not sure any squad could cope with that kind of injury list. Not even Man City.
Hopefully a few of the ‘doubts’ are passed fit, or the likes of Serge Gnabry and Ryo Miyaichi are going to have to step up. But one thing that’s almost certain is that Nicklas Bendtner and Lukas Podolski are set to start in attack.
Here are some tweets from journalists who were at the press conference today confirming the injury news from Wenger:
