Arsenal confirm they’ve signed Piero Hincapié on permanent deal
Arsenal have confirmed they have triggered a buy option to sign Piero Hincapie on a permanent basis from Bayer Leverkusen.
After being impressed by the Ecuadorian’s performances at BayArena, where he helped the German side win a Bundesliga title and a few domestic cup competitions, the Gunners decided to sign him on loan last summer.
He enjoyed a stellar debut campaign at the Emirates Stadium, lifting the Premier League title. Moreover, the 24-year-old helped his side reach the Champions League final before losing to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
In 41 appearances across all competitions, the South American made three goal contributions and kept seven clean sheets last campaign.
Now, Arsenal have confirmed that they have decided to make Hincapié’s loan deal permanent by triggering his buy option. Meanwhile, on X, Fabrizio Romano states that Arsenal have spent around £35m and the player has signed a long-term contract until 2031.
So, Arsenal currently have Gabriel Magalhaes and Riccardo Calafiori alongside Hincapié as options to deploy on the left side of the defence. The Ecuadorian and the Italian are comfortable in the centre-back and left-back positions.
Having proven his worth in club football, Hincapié has established himself as an undisputed starter in the Ecuadorian national team’s starting line-up.
Hincapié to Arsenal
Despite winning the Premier League title last term, the Gunners are said to be planning to remain active this summer to refresh the squad and continue challenging on all fronts next season.
It has been widely documented that Arsenal are considering upgrading the left flank and the centre-forward positions. Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers is Mikel Arteta’s primary target for the left flank, but Christos Tzolis and Bradley Barcola have also been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have reportedly earmarked Julian Alvarez as a serious option to strengthen the centre-forward position, but Barcelona is his preferred destination if he were to leave the Spanish capital.
On the other hand, Arsenal are also interested in reinforcing the midfield department, with AFC Bournemouth star Alex Scott and LOSC Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi on their radar.
It is going to be interesting to see how many new faces the North London club eventually sign in this summer transfer window.
