Arsenal hold talks to sign Man City forward Savinho
Arsenal have reportedly held talks to sign Manchester City forward Savinho, as per Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte.
After impressing for Girona in La Liga, the 22-year-old moved to the Etihad Stadium a couple of years ago, where he has won the EFL Cup, FA Cup, and Community Shield.
However, the youngster struggled to break into Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up last term. As a result, speculation surrounding his future has been emerging in this window.
RTI Esporte state that Tottenham have been in contact with Man City about purchasing Savinho, and the Citizens are prepared to let him leave for around £43m, with his existing deal set to run until 2031.
However, Arsenal tried to hijack Spurs’ deal by holding talks with Man City, and they wanted to sign him on loan. But the Etihad club are only considering letting him leave permanently.
Savinho is a left-footed versatile winger, as he is comfortable on either flank. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, is efficient in delivering excellent crosses from the flanks, and also works hard without possession.
Although Arsenal currently have Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke as options to deploy on the right wing, Mikel Arteta is said to be keen on upgrading the left flank, as Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard displayed average performances last term.
Savinho to Arsenal
The Brazilian and the Belgian are set to enter the final year of their respective contracts, with Trossard edging closer towards the twilight of his career.
Arsenal have been linked with a host of left-wingers in recent weeks, with Morgan Rogers, Christos Tzolis, and Bradley Barcola being among them. But Savinho is emerging as a new target.
Although the South American is a talented player and possesses high potential, he has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League.
So, there is a question mark whether he possesses the necessary qualities to help Arsenal achieve their lofty ambitions. Therefore, the Gunners would be better off exploring other options to strengthen the attacking department.
Meanwhile, alongside bolstering the left flank, the North London club are also interested in purchasing a new striker and midfielder.
