Arsenal ‘preparing’ formal proposal to sign Ibrahim Maza
Arsenal are reportedly ‘preparing’ to launch a formal proposal to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Ibrahim Maza, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After letting Florian Wirtz join Liverpool last summer, the German side decided to reinforce the creative midfield position by purchasing the 20-year-old from Hertha Berlin.
He showed glimpses of his qualities in the Bundesliga last term, scoring five goals and registering six assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. Moreover, he has helped his side qualify for next season’s Europa League.
After proving his worth in club football, the youngster has secured his place in the Algeria national team’s starting line-up, helping his country beat Jordan 2-1 in the World Cup.
Now, Fichajes state that Mikel Arteta is keen on reinforcing the creative midfield position at Arsenal to finally win the Champions League next campaign. Although the Gunners won the Premier League title last term, they lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties in the Champions League final.
The North London club have identified Maza as a serious option after being impressed by his recent eye-catching performances and are ‘preparing’ to launch a formal £52m proposal to persuade Leverkusen to cash-in on him.
However, with the player’s existing deal set to run until 2030, the Bundesliga side won’t let him leave easily. Alongside exploring options to strengthen the squad, Arsenal have been working to balance the books by selling stars and are prepared to let Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Christian Norgaard, and Ethan Nwaneri leave.
Maza to Arsenal
Maza is a creative midfielder by trait, but is also efficient in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the false nine position if needed.
The African is a technically gifted right-footed player and possesses the potential to reach the top. He can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, can play threading passes between the lines, and works hard without possession. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to reinforce the squad by purchasing the Leverkusen star in this summer transfer window.
