Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Morgan Gibbs-White
Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, as per Caught Offside.
The Gunners currently have Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze as options to deploy in the creative midfield position. Moreover, Ethan Nwaneri is capable of providing cover in this area.
After struggling to find regular game time during the first half of last campaign, the youngster joined Olympique de Marseille on loan in January and is set to return this summer.
On the other hand, Odegaard displayed inconsistent performances due to fitness problems last term, making eight goal contributions in 23 starts across all competitions.
Now, Caught Offside claim that Mikel Arteta is keen on adding more creativity and goal threat to the squad, and Arsenal have identified Gibbs-White as a serious option, having been impressed by his impressive performances last term.
However, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and other European clubs are also in this race and have monitored his performances closely before making a potential swoop.
Despite growing interest in the 26-year-old, Nottingham Forest have no intention of letting him leave. They are preparing to cash-in on Elliot Anderson and don’t want to weaken the squad further.
Gibbs-White to Arsenal
The Englishman is valued at around £60m and is set to enter the final two years of his current contract. So, the Tricky Trees aren’t in any rush to sell him.
Gibbs-White is a creative midfielder by trait but is also efficient on the flank. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the box-to-box role if needed.
Although Forest displayed inconsistent performances last term, finishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, Gibbs-White showcased his productivity. He scored 18 goals and registered seven assists across all competitions. Still, Thomas Tuchel decided not to include the midfielder in England’s World Cup squad.
Gibbs-White is a Premier League-proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium during this offseason.
