Arsenal have ‘genuine interest’ in Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers

Arsenal have a ‘genuine interest’ in signing Aston Villa’s forward Morgan Rogers in the summer, according to the BBC’s Sami Mokbel.

The promise and excitement surrounding Rogers during his development in Manchester City’s academy have been fully justified by his performances at the senior level.

Since making the switch to Villa Park from Middlesbrough, his progression has continued at an impressive rate, taking his overall total to 60 goal involvements, with 26 of those arriving this season.

His influence has not been limited to domestic football either. The young attacker was instrumental in Aston Villa’s run to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals last season before their journey was ended by eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Throughout the current campaign, Rogers has again ranked among Unai Emery’s most important performers, playing a significant role in securing Champions League qualification for next season. He also helped the Villains reach the UEFA Europa League final, scoring in a 3-0 triumph over SC Freiburg that delivered the club’s first European silverware since 1982.

Rogers is set to become a subject of keen interest this summer, with several clubs, including Arsenal, among his admirers.

This is according to the BBC’s Sami Mokbel, who claims that the north London club have a ‘genuine interest’ in signing Rogers this summer.

‘Genuine interest’

The journalist adds that the Gunners have held internal discussions to assess how the 23-year-old would fit into Mikel Arteta’s attacking midfield, given the current availability of players in that position.

With several clubs expected to make a move, Arsenal could accelerate efforts, with Mokbel adding that the Premier League champions are not ruling out submitting a formal offer to sign the versatile forward.

At present, Mikel Arteta has Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze at his disposal as attacking midfield options, with Kai Havertz having also filled that role on occasion.

Ethan Nwaneri, who spent last season on loan at Marseille, is also considered a credible candidate for the position, although he currently sits behind both Ødegaard and Eze in the pecking order.

However, there’s still an expectation that an additional attacking midfielder will be added this summer, especially amid rumours of Odegaard’s possible departure.

Should the Norwegian leave the club, Rogers would be a credible replacement. While he is likely to cost more than his £69m Transfermarkt valuation, he would not only fill the void left by Arsenal’s captain but also bring an increased attacking threat to the Emirates next season.
