Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Forest’s Elliot Anderson
Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle with Premier League rivals over a deal to sign Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson, as per Sky Sports.
Since moving to the City Ground from Newcastle United a couple of years ago, he has established himself as an undisputed starter. In his debut campaign, he helped his side push for a Europa League place finish in the Premier League.
This season, the 23-year-old has taken his game to another level, even though the Tricky Trees have endured a disappointing campaign, making nine goal contributions in 50 appearances across all competitions.
After proving his worth in club football, Anderson has secured his place in the England national team’s starting line-up and is set to be a key player for his country in this summer’s World Cup.
The youngster’s recent eye-catching performances haven’t gone unnoticed as he has been attracting a lot of attention ahead of the summer window.
Now, Sky Sports report that Arsenal have expressed their interest in Anderson to bolster the midfield department and could make a concrete approach over the coming weeks.
However, Manchester City and Manchester United are also in this race, with the Citizens currently in pole position to finalise the operation.
Anderson to Arsenal
With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2029, Forest aren’t in any rush to sell him and have slapped a whopping £120m price tag on his head to keep the vultures away.
If any club decide to sign him by matching the Tricky Trees’ valuation, he would become the most expensive midfielder in British football history.
Anderson is an energetic box-to-box midfielder by trait, but is also efficient in the deep-lying playmaker position. He even previously played as a winger under Eddie Howe at Newcastle.
With Christian Norgaard struggling to find regular game time since joining from Brentford last summer, Arsenal could do with signing a new midfielder, and Anderson would be a great coup should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services during the offseason.
