Arsenal submit offer to sign Leicester star Jeremy Monga
Arsenal have submitted a ‘compelling offer’ to sign highly rated England U19 starlet Jeremy Monga from Leicester City next summer, according to reports via GIVEMESPORT.
At the age of 16, Monga became Leicester’s youngest-ever goalscorer after netting the club’s only goal in a 2-1 defeat to Preston North End last August.
The goal also saw him become the youngest goalscorer in EFL Championship history at just 16 years and 37 days old, surpassing the previous record set by Jude Bellingham, who achieved the milestone for Birmingham City in 2019 at 16 years and 63 days.
In the 2024-25 season, the youngster also became the second-youngest debutant in Premier League history behind Ethan Nwaneri after appearing from the bench in Leicester’s 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United. at only 15 years and 271 days, although Max Dowman has now taken the spot after debuting at 15 years and 235 days old against Leeds United this season.
Although a large number of his 30 appearances in all competitions have come as a substitute, Monga has still displayed encouraging qualities, completing 84.7% of his passes and 50% of his long balls, while also contributing defensively with 38 recoveries and 10 tackles.
Citing reports, GIVEMESPORT reports that Arsenal have submitted a ‘compelling offer’ to Monga’s representatives for his potential transfer to the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
The report adds that the Premier League leaders have been in talks to discuss the Englishman’s chances with the first team if he joins the club.
Exciting prospect
Should a deal be agreed with the exciting winger’s camp, the Gunners still need to reach an agreement with Leicester over a compensation fee, according to the report.
Since Andrea Berta took over as sporting director, Arsenal have focused not only on improving the senior squad but also on strengthening their recruitment drive for emerging young talents, already securing several highly rated prospects for the academy setup.
Before the winter transfer window closed, the North London side completed deals for Colombian twins Edwin Quintero and Holger Quintero, while also adding Jaden Dixon and Evan Mooney to their youth ranks.
This season, Mikel Arteta has also continued to provide opportunities for some of Hale End’s standout youngsters, with Max Dowman, Marli Solomon, Andre Harriman Annous, Ife Ibrahim, Brando Bailey-Joseph and Marli Salmon all making their first-team debut this season.
As Arsenal press ahead with their long-term rebuild, Monga, valued at £8m by Transfermarkt, would represent another major addition to an increasingly exciting group of young talents who could develop into valuable options to compete for a starting spot in the first team.
