Arsenal plot swoop to sign AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign AS Monaco star Lamine Camara, as per TEAMtalk.
After finishing second in the last three consecutive Premier League campaigns, the Gunners are on the verge of overcoming their more than two decades of title drought this season.
They are currently at the top of the table with 79 points from 36 matches, sitting five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
On the other hand, Mikel Arteta’s side have reached the Champions League final and are set to face reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain later this month.
Amid this situation, the North London club have already started exploring options to strengthen the squad this summer in order to continue challenging on all fronts next season.
TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are planning to upgrade the engine room and have been keeping a close eye on Camara’s development before making a potential swoop in the summer.
The Senegalese international still has a contract until 2029, but Monaco might be open to cashing-in on him for a fee of around £39m this summer as they are a selling club.
Camara to Arsenal
However, the report state that Liverpool and Manchester United are also keen on him, while Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Brighton, Brentford, and West Ham United have all been monitoring his performances ahead of a potential swoop.
Camara is an energetic defensive midfielder but can provide cover in the box-to-box role if needed. He has shown glimpses of his qualities in Ligue 1 in recent years and has established himself as an undisputed starter in the Senegal national team’s starting line-up.
Arsenal decided to revamp the midfield department by signing Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi last summer. Zubimendi has been playing regularly in Arteta’s starting line-up, but Norgaard has found it difficult to play regularly this season.
So, it appears Arsenal have already started exploring options to replace the Dane. Camara is a highly talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
