Arsenal interested in signing Man City’s Phil Foden
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City star Phil Foden, as per TEAMtalk.
After coming through the Citizens’ youth system, the 25-year-old made his first team debut back in 2017. He has enjoyed great success over the years, winning six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, and several other major cup competitions.
He played regularly earlier this season but has found himself on the periphery in recent weeks. Still, Foden has made 15 goal contributions across all competitions.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that the Englishman has entered the final few months of his current contract, but Man City are on the verge of agreeing on a fresh term with him until 2030. Moreover, Pep Guardiola’s side have included an option to extend the deal for one more year.
Before Foden signed his new contract, Arsenal were interested in him. Furthermore, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Tottenham Hotspur also expressed their interest.
Foden is a left-footed versatile player as he is efficient in playing anywhere across the attacking midfield position. He has showcased his qualities in the Premier League and is currently at the prime stage of his career.
However, considering he hasn’t been playing regularly in recent times, there are question marks over whether Thomas Tuchel will call him up to the England squad for this summer’s World Cup.
Foden to Arsenal
Arsenal currently have Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze as options to deploy in the creative midfield position. Moreover, Ethan Nwaneri, who is currently on loan at Olympique de Marseille, is a long-term option for this role.
On the other hand, Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke are the right-wing options Mikel Arteta currently has at his disposal. So, Arsenal are well stocked in these positions.
It has been suggested that the Gunners have started exploring options to sign a new left-winger, but Foden isn’t a natural left-sided forward, even though he can provide cover in this area if needed.
So, Arsenal don’t need to invest big money to sign the Man City star, valued at around £69m by Transfermarkt, this summer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are set to face West Ham in the Premier League this weekend before taking on Burnley later this month.
