Arsenal showing ‘strong’ interest in signing Real Madrid left-back Alvaro Carreras
Arsenal are plotting a swoop to sign Real Madrid left-back Alvaro Carreras next summer, as per CaughtOffside.
A move from Madrid’s youth ranks to Manchester United’s academy in the summer of 2020 marked the start of his journey in England, where he quickly established himself within the academy setup before being loaned out to Preston North End in search of regular minutes and further development.
Returning to Old Trafford did little to improve his pathway into the senior side, as competition from Luke Shaw and Alex Telles limited his chances, which led to another temporary spell at Granada before a permanent switch to Benfica was completed.
Real progress came during his time with the 38-time Primeira Liga winners, where he featured 68 times across all competitions and lifted the Portuguese Cup in the previous campaign.
After catching attention during that spell, Madrid moved to bring him back last summer, and he has since established himself as a regular in the side despite managerial changes.
This season, the 23-year-old has made 26 appearances in La Liga and 38 in total, with his performances continuing to draw interest ahead of the upcoming summer window.
Arsenal showing ‘strong’ interest in Carreras
Among the clubs looking to sign Carreras is Arsenal, as per CaughtOffside, which claims that Arsenal are showing a ‘strong’ interest in signing the 23-year-old next summer.
With a demanding run of games expected next campaign, the Gunners are prioritising bolstering their full-back positions, and the Spaniard has now emerged among their targets, according to the report.
In a boost to Arsenal, the report adds that Carreras is attracted to their long-term project and the prospect of developing further with regular Premier League playing time.
While the Gunners face stern competition from Manchester United, Juventus and Napoli, CaughtOffside reports that Mikel Arteta’s side holds the advantage in the race due to their improved salary proposal, along with their willingness to offer the Spaniard regular playing time.
Carreras only joined Madrid in the summer, and with five more years left in his contract, Arsenal will need to submit a significant offer around his £51m Transfermarkt valuation to convince the Spanish giants to sell their prized asset.
