Arsenal keen on signing Leverkusen’s Ibrahim Maza
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Bayer Leverkusen star Ibrahim Maza, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After letting Florian Wirtz join Liverpool last summer, the German side decided to reinforce the creative midfield position by purchasing the Algerian from Hertha Berlin.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed a promising debut campaign at BayArena, scoring five goals and registering as many assists in 39 appearances across all competitions this term.
After showing glimpses of his qualities in Germany, the youngster has secured his place in the Algerian national team’s starting line-up.
Now, Fichajes state that Arsenal are contemplating revamping the attacking department this summer to continue challenging on all fronts under Mikel Arteta.
Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard’s futures are currently uncertain, while Martin Odegaard hasn’t been able to showcase his best this season due to fitness problems.
So, Arsenal want a versatile player and have identified Maza as an ‘ideal’ option after being impressed by his performances this season.
However, the Gunners aren’t the only club interested in the Leverkusen star, as Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United are also in this race.
Maza to Arsenal
Apart from the Premier League clubs, Atletico Madrid and Juventus have also expressed their interest in signing him. Los Rojiblancos have even taken the first move by holding initial talks over this deal.
Still, Arsenal are ‘confident’ of luring him to the Emirates Stadium by defeating other clubs in this race. Having recently moved to BayArena, the youngster still has a contract until 2030.
So, Leverkusen aren’t in any rush to sell him, but they would be open to changing their stance should they receive a formal proposal worth at least £48m.
Maza is a technically gifted, creative midfielder by trait, but is also comfortable on the flanks. He is efficient in dribbling past opposition defenders in tight areas, has an eye for scoring goals from distance, and also works hard without possession. He is a highly talented player and isn’t a finished article yet.
So, the Leverkusen star might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services during the offseason.
