Arsenal keen on Atalanta fullback Marco Palestra

By on April 20, 2026

Arsenal are plotting a swoop to sign Italian fullback Marco Palestra from Atalanta next summer, according to El Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Tuttojuve.

Palestra has emerged as one of the most exciting young fullbacks not only in Serie A but across Europe this season.

Initially joining Cagliari on loan as cover for Gabriel Zappa, the 20-year-old has since become a regular starter, featuring in 32 of their 33 league matches under Fabio Pisacane as the club continue their fight for survival.

His consistent performances earned him a call-up to Gennaro Gattuso’s national squad during the recent international break, where he made his debut in the World Cup play-off semi-final win over Northern Ireland.

He also featured against Bosnia and Herzegovina and, despite the eventual penalty defeat, was among the standout performers during regulation time.

With impressive displays at both club and international levels this season, the youngster is expected to attract strong interest as the summer transfer window approaches.

Citing Spanish outlet El Mundo Deportivo, Tuttojuve reports that Arsenal are plotting a swoop to sign Palestra from Atalanta next summer.

Palestra has won 200+ duels this season

Although the 21-year-old is contracted to the 2024 Europa League champions until 2029, it appears the Gunners could sign him for a modest fee, as the report adds that the Serie A outfit are demanding a fee starting from £26m, which could rise due to competition.

Among the clubs also interested in Palestra are Manchester City and Barcelona, who are both set to battle with the North Londoners for the Italian international’s signature in the summer, according to the report.

Looking at Palestra’s statistics in Serie A this season, it is clear that the youngster possesses the qualities to become one of the best fullbacks in Europe.

He has been dominant in individual battles, winning a remarkable 231 duels so far, not just the most of any player in Serie A but more than any current Arsenal player.

Standing at 6ft 1in, the Italian international is also very adept in aerial duels, winning 61.4% of his contested balls in the air, while his 64 successful dribbles, despite being a defender, place him among the best all-round players in Italy.

With Ben White tipped to leave, getting a player of Palestra’s qualities for a modest £26m fee would be a shrewd piece of business from Arsenal.
