Arsenal eye move to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson

By on April 17, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Atalanta star Ederson, as per transfer expert David Ornstein.

Since moving to New Balance Arena from Salernitana back in 2022, the Brazilian has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A, helping his side win the Europa League in 2024.

This season, the 26-year-old has continued to display impressive performances, making three goal contributions in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Moreover, the South American has been helping La Dea push for a European place finish in Serie A, sitting four points behind sixth-placed AS Roma.

Now, speaking on The Athletic, Ornstein has reported that with Ederson’s existing deal set to run until 2027, he could leave this summer, and the transfer is likely to be wrapped up early.

The player’s representatives have been working hard to find a suitable destination for him, and Arsenal have registered their interest in purchasing him.

However, the Gunners will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal as Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and several other clubs are also in this race.

Ederson to Arsenal

Atalanta usually play hardball to sell their big assets and don’t want to let Ederson leave for cheap. They want around £43m, but his suitors are hoping to secure his service for around £35m.

Ornstein said:

“One move I expect to happen early is Ederson out of Atalanta: a year to go on contract, no sign of a renewal and all parties expect him to go. Suitors think they can get him for around €40m, while Atalanta hope to get more towards €50m. His agent is said to be working hard at it. There’s interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal and others.”

Ederson is comfortable playing in the defensive midfield and box-to-box roles. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, and is efficient in defensive contributions.

As Christian Norgaard has failed to win Mikel Arteta’s trust, Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice have been taking on enormous workloads this season.

So, it appears Arsenal are looking to sign a new midfielder this summer. Ederson is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career.

Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
