Arsenal plotting summer swoop to sign Juventus left-back Andrea Cambiaso
Arsenal have set their sights on Juventus left-back Andrea Cambiaso for a possible move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer, according to Tuttojuve.
Mikel Arteta currently has Riccardo Calafiori, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Piero Hincapié as left-back options in his squad.
Although Hincapié is presently on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, the club are widely expected to complete a permanent deal at the end of the season.
Hence, the Gunners appear well covered at left back and could also utilise the versatile Jurrien Timber in that position whenever needed.
Despite those current options, Arsenal still appear keen to strengthen the role further in the summer window, with Cambiaso now emerging as a target.
Cambiaso is one of the best all-around fullbacks in Italy, and it’s no surprise he has been a mainstay in Juventus’ backline despite the incessant coaching changes.
‘Ideal candidate’
Throughout the current season, Cambiaso has featured regularly, with data across competitions highlighting his influence in both build-up play and attacking areas. He has already made over 41 appearances in all competitions, contributing three goals and four assists for the club, and his performances have caught the eye.
According to Tuttojuve, Arsenal have identified the left-back as a priority target and are closely monitoring Cambiaso as a viable option.
It appears the Gunners are accelerating efforts to sign the 26-year-old, as the report adds that the Premier League leaders have a ‘concrete interest’ in the left-back and talks are already in the early stages and are expected to escalate.
Having identified Cambiaso as the ‘ideal’ option for their squad, Arsenal are looking to make a move for his transfer to the Emirates Stadium in the summer and are willing to offer around £34m, although Juventus values the Italian international at £52m, Tuttojuve adds.
A potentially defining moment in the Premier League title race awaits Arsenal as they travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City this Sunday.
Heading into a nervy run-in after three successive domestic defeats, the Gunners have seen their lead trimmed to six points, with second-placed City still holding a game in hand following the loss to Bournemouth.
